ISTS Employees Walk to Prevent Heart Disease and Stroke
Scholarship management company raises money for Start! Heart Walk Nashville
Nashville, TN (Vocus) October 26, 2010
International Scholarship and Tuition Services, Inc. (ISTS) employees’ participation in the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Start! Heart Walk recently culminated in a 2.5 mile walk around Vanderbilt University’s campus.
The team of 20 walkers, consisting of staff and their families, joined other Nashville companies and individual teams to support the fight against heart disease and stroke. Using online fundraising tools, social media and e-mail campaigns, employees succeeded in raising more than $700 in the month of September. This amount was matched with a gift from the company.
President and CEO Becky Sharpe said the Start! Heart Walk provides companies like ISTS a multitude of benefits in addition to the opportunity to pay tribute to loved ones affected by heart disease and stroke.
“Overall, we are encouraging people to stay healthy,” Sharpe said. “But to do that while incorporating a work function and families – I thought that was a great component.”
The annual walk, hosted in cities around the country, is AHA’s biggest fundraising event of the year. For more information on ways you can support the fight against heart disease and stroke, visit http://www.heart.org.
