ISTS CEO Announces Plan To Run For Nashville Metro School Board

Becky Sharpe challenges incumbent board member in this year’s election

Nashville, TN (PRWeb) January 27, 2014

Becky Sharpe wears many hats in her everyday life – business owner, mother, wife, endurance athlete and volunteer. This year, the International Scholarship and Tuition Services, Inc. (ISTS) President and CEO hopes to add “Metro School Board Member” to her already impressive list of accomplishments by winning a seat on the Metropolitan Nashville Board of Education.

Sharpe, chair of the Hillsboro High School cluster since 2009, recently announced that she will challenge Michael Hayes for a four-year term in the District 8 seat. Hayes has served on the board since being elected in 2010, when he ran unopposed.

A product of the Nashville public school system herself, Sharpe graduated from John Overton Comprehensive High School and is the parent of three teenagers currently attending public school. As President and CEO of ISTS – a scholarship, grant and tuition program management company that serves more than 500,000 students worldwide each year – Sharpe has also witnessed first-hand the impact that educational support, or lack of it, can have on a young person’s future. Sharpe said her passion for improving educational opportunities for all kids has inspired her to run.

“I’m very passionate about kids. I want to do whatever I can to make sure each student has an uplifting school experience and is encouraged to achieve her or his potential,” said Sharpe.

To prepare for Election Day on August 7, Sharpe said she will resign from her position on the Cluster this spring to avoid any potential conflict of interest and will visit all schools in her Green Hills-area District.

“I’m energized by the amazing possibilities I see in the schools I visit. Every minute I spend with students, their families, the school principal, teachers or people at the district level drives me to support them in any way I can. Our school and district leadership are some of the hardest working people you will ever meet,” said Sharpe.

If elected to the Board, Sharpe would help address the variety of issues presented to the board each year, as well as assist in the selection of a new superintendent in 2016.
