International Scholarship and Tuition Services’ Starfish Campaign Marks Third Year
Annual giving initiative supports local organizations
Nashville, TN (PRWeb) February 8, 2013
In 2010 Becky Sharpe, President and CEO of International Scholarship and Tuition Services, Inc. (ISTS), transformed the popular story of a young boy and his attempt to save a starfish into an annual corporate giving opportunity.
Three years later, the Starfish Campaign is the company’s most popular giving initiative and has encouraged ISTS employees to “Give Back” both professionally and personally.
ISTS has selected the following Nashville-based organizations as 2013 Starfish donation recipients:
- Autism Society of Middle Tennessee – The ASMT is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving and supporting the local autism community through workshops, conferences, support groups, legislative advocacy and education.
- Thistle Farms – Thistle Farms is a social enterprise of The Community of Magdalene, a residential program for female survivors of trafficking, addiction, prostitution and life on the streets. Residents create natural body care products and receive job training, health care, education and recovery therapy while living in a two-year residential community.
- Team Hunt –In honor of their son, Hunt, Ellen and Michael Hollis established Team Hunt and The Hunt Michael Hollis Fund in 2011 to raise awareness about mitochondrial disease and support the effort to find a cure.
- Nashville Rescue Mission – Nashville Rescue Mission takes a faith-based approach to helping the community by providing food, shelter, clothing and other services to homeless and struggling individuals in Middle Tennessee.
Previous Starfish Campaign recipients include national organizations like Ronald McDonald House Charities and To Write Love On Her Arms, as well as local nonprofits such as Happy Tales Humane and the Tennessee Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence.
The “starfish story” has been translated into many versions but the core principles remain the same today as they did when the original essay, The Star Thrower, was first written by Loren Eiseley in 1969.
